The reefballs we use have different diameters (we mostly use 80cm diameter). They have different openings and are hollow inside so fish and other marine life can hide in it. The reef ball has several ‘plug inserts’ on the outside to plant our coral plugs with the child corals. The advantage of the reef ball is that it does well on sandy areas where there is no basic substrate. This way we can make a new ‘artificial reef’.
creating a reef ball
With reefball® molds, we create a reef ball from a cement composition together with the local communicty. For efficient production and a sustainable reef, the minimum production is 25-30 reefballs
They are filled with a balloon and inflated.
TO THE OCEAN
A boat will transfer the reefballs to his final location.
ON THE SPOT
The reefball will be deflated, and sink off to his final place.
We need at least 20 coral childs on the reefball. natural coral settlements, fish, invertebrates, etc. start housing on and in the reefballs within weeks after placement
