The region around Maziwe island has a pristine and healthy reef system and is an official no fishing zone. By marking the area with 7 buoys it becomes easier to enforce regulations in the park. There are some challenges e.g. depths of buoys are 40-80 meters and weather and waves can be rough so the buoys need a lot of anchor weight. Deploying the first marker buoy last weekend was a pilot, to learn from the deployment procedure and to see how the materials hold up the coming months. Soon we will finish the job and deploy the other 6 buoys.
